DIAMOND SELECTION

Diamond tabel of grades image

The whiter the diamond, the rarer it is. Atelier Molayem selects only stones of the highest color grades: D (colorless +), E (colorless) and F (extra white +), on a scale from D to Z. For its center stones, the Maison uses only stones of category D and E.

Clarity refers to the number, size, nature and location of inclusions (internal and external imperfections) in the stone. A diamond is considered clear if no flaws are visible under 10x magnification. The expert gemologists at Atelier Molayem select only the purest diamonds, those in categories ranging from FL (Flawless) to VVS2 (Very Very Slightly Included).

The weight of a diamond is expressed using a standard global unit of measurement: the carat. One carat is equal to 0.20 grams. For its center stones, the Maison selects diamonds of at least 0.30 carats.

A diamond’s cut refers to its shape, proportions and facets. Among the many diamond shapes, the most well-known are the brilliant, oval, marquise, pear, heart, emerald, princess and cushion cuts. All cuts are carefully studied to enhance the stone’s brilliance and accentuate the way light plays on the facets. Only “excellent” and “very good” cuts are selected. The Maison’s experts strive to reveal all the brilliance and fire of the gem by focusing on the symmetry, the quality of the polish and the cut’s finishes.

In addition to these criteria, Atelier Molayem practices a traditional standard for the House: Pierres de Caractère. With more than a century of experience in the field of Fine Jewelry, the House seeks the most beautiful diamonds, but also a spiritual quality in the stones, the distinctive dimension that makes the heart beat faster. Experienced gemologists then consider the elegance of the shape, the inner fire of the stone and the quality of crystallization that gives it a particular brilliance. By studying the stone repeatedly and from every angle, they understand the unique emotion it can inspire.
